This 28 inch long sautoir style necklace features a 1.25 inch diameter carved cinnabar ball with a geometric pattern. The carving is highlighted by a layer of black pigment to show off the relief. The strand contains red burri-nut beads (carved from the seed of a burri-palm) and onyx. I've handmade the tassel using matte black seed beads that fit nicely with the texture of the cinnabar centerpiece.
The strand is 28 inches, but the cinnabar ball and tassel measure another 5 inches themselves.
Cinnabar is the stone ore from which Mercury is extracted and thus it is no longer used in this way as the shavings created from carving are toxic. But don't worry, this necklace is safe to wear!
