Gold: New for 2022
After months and months of struggle, frustration, expense, and some very rewarding "ahah!" moments I'm finally ready to share some of the gold pieces I've been working on since Christmas 2021. At first I started working with gold filled items. Wire, and disks. Quickly I learned where I can use this more affordable material and where I can't. The chains I buy, and the chains I make are gold filled. It's just more economical and it will last your lifetime at a minimum. More on the difference between gold filled and gold plated at the bottom of the page. I never use gold plated anything ever! Bezels are full karat, either 14 or 22. The little droplets are made from full 14 karat pieces I messed up... got a lot of those in the dish to work with, haha. I hope you enjoy my new creations!
About Gold filled Material:
"Today, gold-filled is a quality designation that's regulated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Gold-filled is made by heat- and pressure-bonding a thin layer of karat gold to a brass (or other base metal) core. The value of gold-filled is greater than gold-plated because gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold, not just a microscopic film, as is the case with gold-plated items." -Rio Grande Jewelry Supply |
