Hand painted Turkish tile from the city of Iznik. Bezel set in fine silver and hammered pewter. Large bail of hammered pewter accommodates a
strand of peacock blue freshwater pearls. Adjustable length between 16 and 18
inches.
During the 1500's the Ottoman Sultan captured the Iranian city of Tabriz. He brought that cities famous ceramic artists to the Turkish city of Iznik and had them make the tiles that would adorn mosques and
palaces of the Ottoman Empire for the next 400 years. Known for their intricate designs these tiles are crafted painstakingly today by women in the city of Iznik.
