BN-170 Shinto Pendant
While this pendant is designed to reflect the style of a Japanese shinto shrine, the vintage glass it houses is actually German made from the 1920's.
Europe had a long history of favoring "oriental" style, which usually referred to what we would consider middle eastern taste today, but the importation of Japanese wood block prints in the 1860's brought considerable Japanese and Chinese influence to decor and even fashion. Hence the origin of this vintage glass cabochon.
The pendant is hammered pewter with sterling wire details, cast pewter droplets, and a square, sterling cross bar at the top. It's strung on an 18" sterling snake chain for a very comfortable fit.
